LET'S TALK ABOUT THE NEW BOOK.....
DECEMBER 14, 2011-Hello everyone. I hope your holiday season is going well. I’ve been extremely busy myself lately.
First up - I’m writing an autobiographical book, with the help of my good friend Doug Van Pelt (of HM Magazine). I’m really excited about this. For the first time it will be an opportunity for me to share with you the real story of my life.
I’m also recording a new solo record that I’m very excited about. Believe it or not but it's been 11 years since the release of my last solo project, "Truth"! Both the book and the record will be released through Big3 next year.
We’re in the initial stages of writing the book, which is where you come in. On Friday December 16 at 8pm EST, I will be doing a live video chat on StageIt.com.
You can go to www.StageIt.com/michaelsweet for details. We’re limiting this to a very few number of people. I’d like to know what topics you would like to see covered in the book.
The chat will be a live video stream. I’ll be broadcasting from my home studio. When you log in, there will be a chat room where you can ask questions. I’ll answer as many of them as I can, live on the video screen.
Unfortunately Stage It doesn’t do free chats, so we’ve made it a “pay what you can” deal, with a minimum of only $2. This covers the cost of the streaming video, etc. This isn’t about the money, this is about helping me write the very best book we can, with the topics you want to see addressed. And again, we’re limiting the number of tickets to only a hundred or so.
If all goes well, I’m hoping to do more stuff on Stage It in 2012, so go ahead and get an account set up.
I hope you’ll join me on December 16 at 8pm EST. It only takes a few minutes to sign up for an account at Stage It. Reserve your spot now for this exclusive chat on the 16th. I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone.
Merry Christmas and I’ll see you next week at StageIt.com !
Blessings,
Michael
MICHAEL SWEET DEPARTS ROCK BAND BOSTON
AUGUST 10, 2011-Stryper frontman and accomplished solo artist Michael Sweet announced his departure from legendary rock band BOSTON today, in order to devote his full attention to his longstanding role as the lead vocalist and lead guitarist for multi-platinum rock outfit Stryper – a band he co-founded in 1983.
Sweet joined BOSTON in 2008, sharing lead vocals and playing guitar on a headlining tour of North America, performing the band's classic hits like "More than a Feeling," “Peace of Mind,” “Amanda” and “Don't Look Back.”
Stryper is currently in the studio working on an untitled release for 2011.
FEBRUARY 9, 2011-Christian rockers Stryper are offering fans a head banging view of who their influences were early on, with the arrival of an almost entire album's worth of covers, 'The Covering.' Set for release on February 15th via Big3 Records, the album includes twelve rocking covers, as well as an all-new original tune, "God."
JUNE 24, 2010 - Recently SongVest offered a very unique opportunity to fans by auctioning part of the song “God” to be released on the upcoming album “The Covering”.
Winning fans received a variety of special prizes in addition to becoming part owner of the song. Two fans were able to sit in the studio with Michael Sweet and attend the mastering session for the song.
Dave Williams, one of these winners, wrote a very moving note following his experience. Stryper asks that you pray for Linda Williams and her family during these challenging times.
FEBRUARY 15, 2010 - Hey Everyone, Just as promised, I wanted to outline some more details regarding the new Stryper record. We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Van Halen, UFO, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kansas and many others, helped to shape our sound and make us who we are today, musically speaking. We grew up on the streets of LA playing every club in town from Gazzari's to The Whisky to The Troubadour to you name it. We played covers from all the bands mentioned above and we shaped our own sound from listening and performing songs from these classic bands.
We wanted to step outside the box and record a record that shows you, the fans, where we come from - our historical, musical roots so to speak. It's a side to Stryper that no one has really seen or heard before, or at least quite like this. We performed "On Fire" by Van Halen on a few tours and we also performed "Breaking The Law" by Priest on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear Stryper cover these songs and even more surprised to hear Stryper perform these songs relatively well. This will be an opportunity for Robert, Oz, Tim and myself to loosen up and have some fun.
For those of you who may think that we're walking away from our faith - your wrong. We've never been more serious about our faith at any point in our lives. It is however important to enjoy what you do and lighten up from time to time. That's what we plan to do. This will be a fun record to make and we hope that this comes through, as well as the chance to showcase the abilities that we've been blessed with. More details to come and a specific song list and sequence to follow.
We're looking forward to getting back into the studio and more important, to seeing all of you on the road again this year!
Be well, be blessed and let the games begin,
Michael
TOP 10 HIGH-PITCH METAL SINGERS
FEBRUARY 9, 2010 - It was recently learned that Noisecreep (NOISECREEP.COM) has named Michael Sweet as one of the Top 10 high-pitch metal vocalists! Here's what they had to say:
"We could see you yelling at your monitors now, "Stryper?!" But get past whatever preconceived notion you might have about these Christian rockers because Michael Sweet has one of the more ear-splitting howls you'll here anywhere. Check out albums like 'Soldiers Under Command' and 'To Hell With The Devil' if you don't believe us. Ironically, as the band's profile got higher, his pitch got lower.
Sweet still found ways to sneak a high note, here and there, on their later ballads, but we bet Stryper's label wasn't too hot about the idea."
FEBRUARY 1, 2010 - Looking back on the past five months I've realized that I've been a little more on the reserved side regarding updates and staying in touch. To be completely honest, it's been nice being more on the reclusive side but for some reason, I felt inclined to write today, 2/1, and I seem to have a lot on my heart so here goes........
